Free Picasa Software:
Card Making Ideas and Videos

Free Picasa software from Google is, in my view, essential if you save images and/or printable craft supplies!

I've been online a LONG time, and I always ignored Picasa - I didn't need another 'picture' package. But as I got into computer craft, I read about using Picasa to organise my rapidly growing collection of digital card making supplies, and the pictures I collect for inspiration. I was hooked from the first time I used it...

Picasa ... my hero!

Oh Boy! ALL my images, from every little nook and forgoten-about-cranny on my computer, was found and organised neatly by Picasa, presented to me all in one place - even photos of my kids as newborns that I thought I'd lost somewhere in the guts of my hard drive were right there.

Best of all, I could now 'tag' these pictures so that I would never lose them again - not having to put them into 'files' but assigning keywords to the pictures e.g. I have photos of my girls and their grandma - do I file these under their names, or grandma photos? With Picasa, I just tag the photos with names or keywords - type any one of these into the search bar and hey presto! Furthermore, you can now put similar pictures into virtual albums, create self-starting CDs or even upload them to the internet in one go!

Digital Supplies + Picasa = Godsend

Get all your digital craft supplies in one place and view similar items together, to help plan or make your cards. Now I just tag all my digital card making supplies as 'blue' or 'pink' or 'spotty' or 'ribbon'... then when I needed some embellishments for a blue-toned card, I can find all my blue, spotty background papers in just a few clicks, then pick and choose which will look best on my card.

Use the Free Picasa Software to
Change the Colour of
Background Papers and Printables

For me, the free Picasa software is a MUST for cardmakers who download digital scrapbooking supplies or craft printables because your blue spotty background papers can be magically turned into pink, or yellow, or lilac - instantly.

No messing about with advanced editing features like hue and saturation or whatever, just click the colour you want! Blue paper turns into Pink paper. I made this video to show how quick and easy is it to change the colour of digital background papers!

So, if you download my VIP freebies but
you don't like the brown polka dot ribbon I gave you ...
use Picasa and change it to any colour you want!

Another idea is to type a poem for your card, save the document as a jpg file and then in Picasa, you can change the colour of the white background, and even have a tinted/gradient effect on the page. There are lots of sites to get poems from but if you want some funny poem ideas check out Very Funny Poems.com

Foolproof Printing Quality

This is a great 'plus' - Picasa helps you with your printing: it warns you if the image will be bad quality, and you can play around with the size until it says it's going to be good or best quality. Especially important if you are printing colour-heavy digital papers - you want them to be good!

Many times these days I open up Picasa instead of my trusty Paint Shop Pro, it is just SUCH an excellent piece of software!
