Make Money with Craft Parties

Craft parties are a great way to earn money from your hobby! I think they are pretty normal in the US but fairly unusual in the UK, but which means there is a market!

I thought a lot about doing these, but I didn't think 'I' would have been the right person to host them. I didn't have the time to recruit people or plan it all, so I never put it into practice. I had a lot of interest from people though and I do think it would be a great idea.

• Real Craft Parties

  Basically you would sell your craft supplies at parties held in people's houses, community groups etc. There are people who cannot get out to craft shops, maybe don't have internet access...so take the craft shop to them! They would get up close and personal with all those goodies, you would demonstrate them, and hopefully their excitement would turn into cash. This would be a great idea kids crafts (parents attending!) especially around Christmas or Easter.

• Virtual Craft Parties

  This is a rather novel craft business idea that appeals to the cybergeek in me! It involves hosting your party, online and in real time, selling your products there and then to people you can chat to. Online scrapbooking crops are already very popular, so I can see how this develops out of that.

  Virtual craft parties might be more suited to 'ready made' products though, such as your cards or embellishments, or even for taking orders for custom-made ones. Or, perhaps you could do a 'wedding' themed party, where you show brides-to-be what they can make, then take orders, and payment, for the materials. This is a new idea to me, and something I'm going to report back on more in future, so watch this space ;)

• Become a Consultant

  There are some scrapbooking companies that you can become a Consultant for, and sell craft products that way, although these obviously won't be geared towards card making.
