3D Decoupage Instructions
3D Decoupage (Paper Tole) is one of the most popular card making techniques. Basically, its about creating 3D pictures from multiple copies of one image - individual elements are cut out and glued into layers to ‘build out’ the picture.
Craft Supplies for 3d Decoupage:Image sheets can be bought at most craft shops, downloaded or you can easily make your own, and although there are particular glues and tools available, for the purposes of card making the following will suffice: - 3D Foam Pads or Glue Dots
- Embossing Tool
- Scissors - curved tips are best, for better control and precision
- Self-healing cutting mat and a craft knife
Choose Images That Are:- Fairly simple
- Well defined
- With larger areas
- Fewer elements to cut out
Tip: Hair, family photos and fur are difficult!
Instructionsa) Cutting the right bits out! Many kits, or ‘step-by-step’ sheets, show you which parts of the image to cut and the order in which to place them, to build out your picture properly. However, with no instructions just look at your image to see how it would look in real life, e.g. which areas would normally stand out and which would remain in the background. Look at the picture and ask yourself which parts would fit in... - the background
- the middle ground
- the foreground
b) Shaping the Paper
You make the 3D effect even better by using an embossing tool on a cut piece. Work on a firm surface, but with a bit of 'give' to it. Starting in the middle, gradually move outwards in circular movements, carefully stretching the paper to give a more raised appearance.
