| September 26, 2006 20:27 - Write About Card Making for Money!
Did you know you could write about card making and actually earn money from it?
There are many ways to do this, one of them involves freelance writing - but don't panic, it's not as bad as it sounds.
These days a good website needs content - 'content is king'- and preferably 'original' content at that. Good, original and useful articles can be hard to find so for those with a passion for their craft, freelance writing could be a great 'work from home opportunity' that you might want to look into.
Examples of making money from writing about card making could include:
- Joining a freelance job site, such as the Freelance Work Exchange with their hugely popular $2.95 trial to see the thousands of 'online freelance writing jobs' available - I have advertised for people with card making experience to write articles for me on techniques I don't do (like tea bag folding) and had a poor response, so there's a market for you!!! Sometimes, people just want someone to do the research for them, but you're still making money.
- Start your own content website and share your card making passion with others. - you then earn money through Google Adsense, affiliate commissions, your own infoproducts, classes etc
- Advertise yourself/your site/your classes/your shop by submitting articles to free article directories, with your details being posted wherever your articles are used. If you are on eBay you can also write 'reviews' which may act in a similar way.
- You could try using 'article churning' software that Webmasters use, to offer your own 'unique' content to the article directories, Webmasters, PLR membership sites, or maybe even your OWN membership site

September 29, 2006 13:16 - Local People Need Local Business - Online
Many times people think that local shops are 'too small' to be online - why would you want your local grocer to have a website?
Well, you might be cooking a special dish and want to see if they usually stock the ingredients, then you can ring them and see if they have any etc A super-savvy local grocer might have online ordering and a delivery service too.
This isn't exactly card making and many craft shops are 'online' these days, allowing online shopping and mail order delivery.
However, many are not. Or many 'events' are not advertised online. But if they were, you might get more business or attendees etc
For example, research on
U.S. Internet users by comScore
Networks shows us that:
- 63% performed a local search online last July, nearly twice as
many as the previous year
- 59% were searching for a restaurant or entertainment, such as a
theater, theme park or attraction
- 52% were searching specifically for a business phone number or
address
- 41% were searching for something in their home area, rather than
places they were going to visit
- 41% were looking for information on a local service in their home
area, such as car rental, dry cleaners or lawyers
So, at the
very least, local businesses need to get their contact details online, probably
in a local directory?
The study also found that local search drives
consumers action:
- 47% visited a local merchant as a result of their online search
- 41% made offline contact
- 37% made online contact
So, if you have a shop, or know someone with a shop or small business who isn't online, gently tell them that this is the next big thing - that's why Google et al are spending so much on Local Search. As we go forward and we get more and more web savvy, being online is going to be critical, even if it's just an address and phone number.
If you have any local events that you would like to publicise, see whether there are any local directories for where you live or add your events and classes to the Card Making World Calendar.
